GearBox is High-Definition

In a world that's increasingly dominated by High-Definition production, it's good to know there’s a company you can turn to that has extensive HD rental stock and the technical experience to back it up.

GearBox offers the most comprehensive fleet of High-Definition equipment available to hire in Europe. Add to this the fact that GearBox can deliver within-the-hour to the Broadcast, Film and TV Post-Production community, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and you've got yourself an HD hire service that’s essentially unique. In short, GearBox is the ‘One-Stop Shop’ for all your HD production requirements, and here's why.

GearBox offers the most extensive range of Sony HD VTRs available for hire in the Europe, including multiple units of the industry-standard SRW-5500, HDW-F500 and HDW-M2000P HDCAM VTRs, the compact, cost-effective J-H3 and the latest addition to the VTR rental fleet, the new HVR-1500 HDV format VTR. Additionally GearBox also offers multiple units of the compact HVR-M25E and HVR-M10E VTRs, and the groundbreaking HVR-Z1E camcorder.

GearBox is making significant investments in the Sony HDV format because it is well placed to be the biggest thing in broadcasting in 2007 and beyond. When as an august and technically forward-looking broadcaster such as the BBC puts its weight behind a format - and goes on record to say that the performance is "unbelievable" for the price - it doesn't take a technology analyst to spot a winner.

Naturally, GearBox also stocks multiple units of the industry-standard Panasonic AJ-HD3700BE and the compact, cost-effective Panasonic AJ-HD1400AE VTRs. Small and easy to carry, with AC/DC operation, the Panasonic AJ-HD1400 is the first compact DVCPRO HD-LP VTR with multi-format and editing functions. GearBox also stocks multiple units of the Panasonic AG-HVX200 P2miniCam, the first cost-effective, HD Camcorder to offer the same look and feel as footage from a film camera, and the latest generation of Panasonic flat screen HD/SD LCD monitors, the 26” BT-LH2600W and 17” BT-LH1700WE.

GearBox recently became the first company in Europe to offer the groundbreaking Snell & Wilcox Alchemist Ph.C HD standards converter available to hire. The Alchemist Ph.C HD is a motion-compensated HD standards converter that yields converted images of unparalleled quality and clarity so that even the most dynamic inputs are delivered with stunning detail, free from artifacts, and virtually indistinguishable from the original HD content. GearBox also stocks multiple units of the Snell & Wilcox Ukon, alongside other essential ‘system glue’ items from Eyeheight, Leitch, Miranda and Tektronix. Brand new for hire in 2007 is the Dolby de-facto standard for HD output, the DP571 E Encoder, DP572 E Decoder and DP579 E Tri-Level Sync Interface.

In addition, GearBox operates the largest rental fleet of HD non-linear editing systems available to hire in Europe. For 2007 this includes the latest generation Avid Media Composer Adrenaline and Symphony Nitris NLE's, available with Avid Unity LANshare LP or Unity MediaNetwork shared-storage solutions. Digidesign Pro Tools|HD Accel systems, are available with either D-Control or D-Command ICON integrated consoles. GearBox also offers multiple Apple Mac Pro or MacBook Pro-based Final Cut Studio 2 systems, available with the options of Apple Xserve RAID or G-Tech GRAID2 storage solutions.

GearBox is unique in Europe in being able to supply for hire HD Projection systems from Digital Projection. In addition to the flagship HIGHlite 6000DS GearBox now stocks the Mercury 5000 series of ultra-portable Pro HD projectors. Both are ideal for assembling ad-hoc HD viewing theatres and many other applications.

GearBox is also the only company in Europe to offer a comprehensive range of HD viewing options including the Sony BVM-D24E1WE and BVM-D14H1E. The Sony BVM-D24E1WE is a 24” multi-format widescreen master control monitor. It is equipped with a unique flat-surface, high resolution CRT. This monitor provides a superb picture resolution of 1000tvl. Alternatively, the Sony BVM-D14H1E is a 14” multi-format viewing monitor. It is equipped with a high resolution Trinitron CRT. This monitor provides an excellent picture resolution of 800tvl. Both these models from the BVM-D series are perfectly suited to HD formats, as well as older SD video standards. GearBox is also currently investing in the new range of Sony production monitors announced at NAB 2007, including the new BVM-L230 23” full-HD reference LCD broadcast monitor.

GearBox offers all the High-Definition products listed available to hire from any one of three GearBox office locations, West London, Express in Soho, or the GearBox North office in Leeds.

So there you have it: the latest HD technology, at the best rates, with delivery within the hour or less, 24/7. All this and the technical expertise to back it up – If you’re looking to GOHD, go HD with GearBox - the High-Definition company.
