Owlspace Studios goes ICON |
|
|
Music Producer Andrew Hale recently installed a 32 fader Digidesign ICON D-Control and Pro Tools|HD3 Accel with four 192-IO’s system in his OwlSpace Studio, in North-West London.
A man of many talents, not content with being the keyboard player, co-writer and co-producer of the multi-platinum selling band Sade, Andrew also wrote the soundtrack for the Sony PlayStation game ‘The Getaway’, released two albums with the other guys in the Sade band under the name Sweetback, helps to develop new artists for Sony/BMG, and also produces the music for top fashion designers Fendi and Paul Smith’s catwalk shows. Andrew was an early adopter of Digidesign technology: “Pro Tools has been the centre of how I work for quite some time, the D-Control replaces a ProControl in OwlSpace, so working with Pro Tools and a control surface is familiar territory for me, ICON seemed like the most natural progression for the studio upgrade.” He also believes the installation will attract an increase in the amount of work coming into OwlSpace: “ICON D-Control adds an impressive centrepiece to the studio. It allows us the ability to offer increased facilities to outside music and post clients. This neatly augments the in-house video editing and production facilities we already have here at OwlSpace.”

The decision to install the ICON D-Control system was driven by what Andrew describes as: “ICON offering a great deal of flexibility and adaptability - the custom faders feature is extremely useful especially for plug in control and management of groups, and the overall ergonomics are pretty impressive.” Andrew continues: “Up until recently the studio has been used mainly for my own production work, the D-Control offers an easy learning curve to engineers not so used to working in a Pro Tools ‘mixing in the box’ environment, there’s certainly been a willingness to embrace the new console by visiting engineers.”
OwlSpace is looking like it will be busy for the foreseeable future, and Andrew Hale is looking forward to using the ICON D-Control system on his own up and coming productions. Last year Andrew co-wrote and co-produced some of the tracks on the double platinum-selling Corinne Bailey Rae album, worked with a new Sony/BMG artist’s Killa Kela and Fried, in 2007 he will be scoring another Sony PlayStation Game. As the old saying goes “If you need something doing - ask a busy man.” For further information please visit:
