Anvil Post moves to High Definition

World-class post-production facility Anvil Post, which recently relocated from Denham to Perivale, West London, has also moved into the High-Definition audio arena by upgrading all of the facility’s Pro Tools systems to the latest HD Accel v6.9 specification, additionally each of Anvil’s mixing studios now offer 144 channels of Tascam MX2424 digital audio dubbers.

Anvil Post has a track record spanning almost 50 years, mixing the sound for major cinema releases including Alien, Mrs. Brown, Star Wars and Superman, as well as top-quality TV drama series such as Auf Wiedersehen Pet, Inspector Morse and Midsomer Murders.

Anvil new facility offers two fully digital Dolby accredited dubbing theatres, in addition to an ADR/Foley theatre and a DVD authoring suite, which features a 16 fader Digidesign ProControl with Edit Pack.

GearBox spoke to Anvil’s technical manager Rupert Scrivener "Our recent move to High-Definition capability has been made possible by the advanced functionality of the latest Pro Tools|HD Accel systems. The combination of instant access, high-resolution audio, and advanced machine control functions in v6.9 tie in very nicely with the SSL Avant Plus digital consoles we have installed in both our large-scale mixing studios."

The installation of the Tascam MX2424 dubbers in multiple units has a allowed Anvil a new level of flexibility on the dubbing stages, Scrivener explains, "We can be doing final stems over a 24 track set up, all mixed down within a 5.1 sector. It's a very flexible palate and it enables you to mix anything to and from anything, so it will be used at every stage of the mixing process."

Anvil’s facility manager Mike Anscombe commented: “Our new dubbing theatres have been designed to the highest specifications and represent a major step up for the company in terms of the facilities we can offer clients.”

Anscombe continues: “Anvil has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Richard and the team at GearBox, they have always offered first-class service and support, we were very happy to give them the contract to upgrade our Pro Tools systems and supply the Tascam MX2424s – once we had confirmed the order they pulled all the stops to make sure the new equipment was installed for the date we requested, this has allowed us to ensure that projects already booked into the studios went ahead on time.”

Anvil’s Studio One is currently mixing Dungeons and Dragons, which is due for release later this year.

Anvil Post is part of the Technicolor Creative Services group of companies.
